Anna Karina

Anna Karina was my introduction to French Cinema. I remember seeing photos of her online and being fascinated by her 'look'. Since then I have tried to watch as many of her films as I can find (though I admit there are many more I am yet to see) and I have become an admirer of her as both an actress and as a woman.

Anna brought light, fragility, spirit and melancholy to Godard's films. Her face was so expressive that even if the films were perplexing, the audiences universal emotions were reflected by Anna.
Despite the difficulties she faced during her life she remained gracious and passionate. She was a singer, producer, director and author, as well as an actor and fashion icon (I remember buying a red jumper so that I could emulate her look in Une Femme est Une Femme!)

I was so sad to learn of her passing, she really was a unique woman who will hold a special place in the hearts of cinema-goers around the world. Rest in peace Anna.

"It's about being human. It's beautiful, it's touching, it's acting. It's acting and reality at the same time"
